logo_blue_small2.gif Parkinson’s SA provides support services in South Australia for people with Parkinson’s Disease (PD) and their families. The challenge for people with PD is to manage their condition so they can enjoy quality of life. In recognising the varied needs of people with Parkinson’s (PWP), the organisation directs its activities towards programs that encourage self management of the condition.

The Aims of Parkinson’s SA Include:

  • Providing direct services to assist PWP and their families in coping with management problems arising from the condition.
  • Providing information to PWP, their carers and health professionals.
  • Facilitating referral to appropriate community resources.
  • Promoting public awareness through community education.

What We Offer

  • A newsletter maintains regular contact with our members and informs them about various aspects of PD management, as well as the activities of the organisation.
  • Information – a wide range of library resources, fact sheets and other printed information is available.
  • Education seminars, workshops and conferences help educate people with Parkinson’s, carers and health professionals about management of the condition.
  • DVDs – a variety of DVDs dealing with many aspects of PD and exercise programs are available from the organisation for loan or purchase.
  • Individual and family support – counselling is available from qualified staff and support is available from other people with Parkinson’s.
  • Group support – regional groups meet regularly throughout the State.
  • Information about and referral to other community services.

Membership is open to people with Parkinson’s, relatives and health professionals. The annual subscription is $30.00 which includes quarterly newsletters.  New members are always welcome and members are encouraged to drop in and make use of the organisation’s resources.

Parkinson’s SA has minimal staff supported by enthusiastic volunteers.

The organisation does not give advice on individual medical matters and treatment, but works closely with its medical advisors and other professionals.
